1967 Chevelle Restoration Pt 1steemCreated with Sketch.

in auto •  7 years ago

Quick video of me trying to pull the chevelle's rear quarter panel straight using a 12,000 lbs winch.

Next step will be to try to match the body contour using hammers and heat. This is my first time doing body work that is this bad if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Thanks

That's a lot if work, but if successful you can say it has original sheet metal. A lot of people wouldn't even try, they'd just buy replacement panels and cut off the old. Kudos to you for this, I am sure it will be a rewarding project. I'm biased though, the 67s are among my favorite chev body styles. Looking forward to seeing more!

That's one heck of a project you have there! If you get the kinks out of the sheet metal, it's going to look pretty good.
It might take 2 people but using a hammer and a bucking bar behind the creases will help work them out now that they're not folded up. I've never done that kind of work, but I've watched people do it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think the hammer and bucking bar will work but first I have to figure out a good way to straighten the inner fender well. It got creased as well and is currently blocking the quarter panel from going all the way back to where it should be. I'm going to try the bucking bar on the creases in the back that I can reach, hopefully I don't stress the steel too much
