NYC Christmas Outlook 2019
Good morning everyone. Even though things are active, they're quiet in the sense that there's nothing significant going on; so I've decided to have a little fun and throw out a Christmas Hail-Mary forecast. First, we'll discuss the immediate forecast and other features going on.
SATELLITE
Overnight and into tomorrow morning, clouds begin to creep in. Temps will modify to seasonal as we go for mid 40's as highs. We'll have the slight chance of a shower as the day wears on, but the majority of the moisture holds off until tomorrow night and Saturday.
Steady rain begins tomorrow night, and we'll keep that in the picture pretty much all day Saturday. It'll be "mild" with highs in the low to mid 50's, but easterlies will keep a raw feel to the air. Overall, the mildness will not be an enjoyable experience unless you're one of the first harbor seals coming down for the season.
Sunday morning we begin to clear out, and we'll have decreasing clouds throughout the day. Colder air will be delayed for a day, so we could see some upper 40's to 50's before we cool off Sunday night.
Clouds increase again Monday with a very fast-paced pattern going on, then rain moves back in late Monday and/or Tuesday. That system may start off as a brief period of mix or frozen precip before turning to all rain. This actually sets the tone for the following weekend and into Christmas week with this active, fast-paced pattern continuing.
I'm actually going to keep the SLIGHT chance of a snow before (12-36hrs) Christmas Eve out there as a tease; just to dangle a little mistletoe over my viewers, but then I'm going to kick you in the gut as another system will probably be moving in at or near Christmas Day. The majority of the pattern is not snow-friendly, with most of our systems going well north and west of us.
We'll stick with that story and go with a mostly cloudy Christmas, with some rain possibly lurking in the area, temps near or slightly above average. Let's see how it pans out, and obviously we will make realistic adjustments as we get closer (if needed).
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
