NYC Mixed Precip Remains Possible Monday Afternoon Evening
Good morning everyone. We are now in between batches of rain as the heaviest precip has begun to pull away fairly on schedule. Now we wait for the back-end of our system, and overall it's not going to be a nice day. Meanwhile, we're watching our next system that could give us a brief period of frozen precip, and I'm continuing to watch Christmas Day for the final forecast.
SATELLITE
Highs today will be in the mid to upper 50's, yet it'll still feel raw with our wind profile. Showers should begin to pull away between 5pm-9pm, and we'll have to watch the radar to see how fast we can get this out of here.
Overnight the wind picks up, and we'll keep that wind around tomorrow as clouds decrease and the sun increases. Highs tomorrow will be a seasonal mid to upper 40's, but that wind will keep it feeling chilly.
Monday is interesting since we'll be watching our next system heading into colder air. Overall, this is not a snow-friendly path, but there's probably enough moisture well out ahead of it to give us a period of snow or mixed precip before changing to all rain.
Right now the timing is an issue, with NWS and other outlets have different start times. The start time will be crucial as far as how long our period of frozen precip lasts if we get any at all. The earlier the start, the better the chance of some snow. The later we go into the day, the more of a chance for mixed precip or just a plain cold rain.
Highs will be in the mid to upper 30's, so don't expect any big accumulations even if we do start out as a little bit of snow. Regardless of what happens, it's all rain overnight Monday as low pressure heads to our west and north/over us, and we'll have some morning rain Tuesday before we slowly clear out. Look for mid to upper 40's Tuesday before cold air heads back in Wednesday.
I'm continuing to watch our Christmas Day forecast as well. Our next system that'll lurk will probably be around next weekend, and this one is crucial to our Christmas Day as far as what kind of weather we will have.
If that system spools up nicely and sticks around a little bit, that'll slow down the rest of the pattern and give us a sunny, windy, and cold Christmas. If it's weak and heads out fairly quickly, that may allow for some clouds and light showers to creep in around Christmas Day +/- 1 day.
Overall, we are not concerned about our Christmas Day weather as far as any big systems or events. It'll either be mixed cloud cover, seasonal, and a shower; or sunny, windy, and cold. Everything hangs on what happens before, and that system may be fairly sizable even if it doesn't fully affect our area.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
