I want to share with you today the dangers of flying VFR into IMC or flying on the bare minimums of VMC.

Today my one friend, a young pilot doing his cross country navigation flight departed our home base in VFR conditions and had to cut his flight short because of weather turning bad. Like all pilots he checked the weather for his route and did his planning around it. After departing our base in clear sky weather no clouds in sight to just a few hours into the flight where clouds are rapidly building up. He did not pay much attention to it because according to his planning and weather briefing he would still be safe to finish his planned route.

A couple of minutes passes and the conditions started to deteriorate badly and he even started to straggled to fly straight and level cos it became real bumpy. At this time he said it felt like the plane was controlling him and he was always a step behind. He decided to divert to a near by airport to land and just as he touched down at the airport it started to rain.

By this said I would like to implore every aviator to always check for weather updates pay attention to changing conditions as weather can be unpredictable at times and change easily. In most years, nearly half of all weather-related accidents happen as a result of continued VFR flight into IMC…and sadly, the vast majority of those accidents are fatal. Don’t be the next pilot to fall prey to descending ceilings and deteriorating visibility just cos you feel you are the man and can fly in any conditions.

Rather land wait for the weather to pass and then carry on its better to arrive late and alive at your destination then putting your family and friends through hell and pain and endangering other families on the ground.
