The Pilot shortage crisis. A major problem around the world

in aviation •  7 years ago

ICAO, (International Civil Aviation Organization) predict it in 2010, repeat it in 2012. At that time there where not enough school around the world to train enough pilot to fill the shortage to come. To make it even worst, there is less pilot coming out of theses school.

What the numbers do not say is the total number of pilots missing in the industry. A pilot does not leave school and becomes an airline pilot. It takes about 2 or 3 years of experience and written exams to receive the airline license. But right now companies are so desperate, they hiring right out of school just to fill the copilot seat and not cancel flight.
And the number doesn't include shortage smaller company, like aerial survey, charter, and even flight instructor. Shortage of instructor means less pilot trained and etc...

But some good news for pilot

Good news is, even in entry level companies, working condition are getting better and salary are rising. Schedule like 14 On / 7 days off, and 14 / 14 are becoming standard even in short haul companies

If any of you, your friends, or family are interested in a career in aviation, there is no better time in history to do so.

Some great article about it.

Interesting post
Have a nice day @nickskywalker

Tx! you too!! @revelim

Tx!!

Its the pay at the regional airlines that killed the industry I was a captain on a CRJ-900 for YV and between the two leg commute, the shit pay, living at the DFW Red Roof, and managements BS I left what should have been my dream job. It just wasn't worth it anymore. I have a buddy over at K4 and I'm thinking about applying over there.

I've been away for 4 years... and I may gonna have to take an aviation break in septembre for family purpose... at least now salary and condition are rising. And they will be plenty of job. Good luck!!!

Hello Friend !!! you blog is very interesing !! good luck !

good post. Important information for those who want to be pilots. It's a motivation

An horizon with a wide variety of opportunities

yeah you are right due to the high rate of fire off employees and high rate of retirement rate and no doubt the high demand of aviation industry i think this problem is going severe now and the authorities take notice of this big issue and one thing more they sholud hire more energetic and adult pilots so that the aviation industry can flourish it self because now the rate of air mincidents is going so much high because the pilots are so over aged and they can not maintain their routine

  • all the new order... for every airplane sold, they need 4 to 5 crew to make it fly.

yeah thanks for this good and nice information dear

I want to become a Pilot but Living in a third World Country in impending Doom doesn't help. Need 20 Thousand Bucks to take a pilot course and minimal wage is 35 Bucks Monthly. God I love my life!

You're at the right place to pimp your wage!!! good luck!

I am in complete agreement with you, this is the best time to become a pilot and I am encouraging my friends to consider a career in aviation because the outlook is so promising.

Never ever give up!

I've been out for 11 years. I've kept my eye on the industry ever since. Loved the job, it was just a pretty dead industry at the time. It's looking like things are really picking up now and like you said, schedules and pay are improving substantially. Getting back in is looking better and better. We'll see!
