Avatar movie summary
The movie "Avatar" is a 2009 American science fiction film Pandora is toxic to humans, so they create avatars, genetically engineered beings that can be controlled by a human's consciousness from a remote location.
The story follows Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington), a disabled former Marine who is recruited to take over his late brother's avatar and infiltrate the Na'vi, the indigenous humanoid species on Pandora. Jake is supposed to gain their trust and convince them to relocate from their home, which is rich in unobtanium, so that humans can mine it.
However, when Jake begins to learn more about the Na'vi and their culture, he starts to question his mission and develops a deep connection with Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldana), a Na'vi princess who becomes his teacher and guide. As he spends more time with the Na'vi, Jake becomes more sympathetic to their cause and decides to help them protect their home from the humans.
The movie climaxes with a battle between the humans and the Na'vi, with Jake leading the charge on the back of a giant bird-like creature called a banshee. In the end, the Na'vi are able to defeat the humans and Jake decides to permanently transfer his consciousness into his avatar, so that he can live among the Na'vi and be with Neytiri.
"Avatar" was a massive commercial and critical success, grossing over $2.7 billion worldwide and winning.
