PlayStation 5: everything you need to know about the console
Launched worldwide in November 2020, PlayStation 5 is the latest and greatest console developed by Sony, and the fifth generation in the lineup that has been winning the hearts of game enthusiasts for over 25 years. The PS5 is much more powerful than the PlayStation four (including the Pro model) and promises games that were not possible on older devices.
With a very different – and even futuristic – layout and a redesigned controller with new functions, the PS5 also has new functions and compatibility with various multimedia services, in addition to the almost complete PS4 game library available since launch.
The console has an eight-core AMD Zen two CPU clocked at 3.5 GHz and a custom GPU using AMD's RDNA two technology, which delivers 10.28 teraflops of power. In addition, the company equipped the device with sixteen GB of GDDR6 RAM and a custom 825 GB SSD.
According to Sony, the adoption of an SSD, combined with the hardware of the device, will make the loading time in games be reduced to almost zero, in addition to significantly reducing the loading time in "fast travel" features present in open world video games. Last year, the company demonstrated the PlayStation 5 alongside the previous console in a 'Marvel's Spider Man' recreation test.
However, the console will not be limited to the SSD that comes from the factory. The video game has an NVMe SSD input for expandable storage
The PS4 surprised by having a controller quite different from the three previous DualShocks, and the PS5 goes further with the new controller model called DualSense. It features adaptive triggers and tactile remarks, opening up new possibilities for developers.
And the PS5 developers have already addressed the gameplay by explaining how they are using the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from the DualSense, a wireless controller developed for the console, to improve the gamers experience.
