Spiritual growth and awareness: Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. Psalm 19:9

The law of Moses represents in ancient times the pact between God and men, the sons of Abraham undertake to follow the law faithfully and God to fulfill his blessings on the chosen people. The old testament does not tell us much about the spiritual gifts, there are mentions of mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) and righteousness (golden rule), but above all the spiritual gift that stands out the most is the fear of God.
The book of psalms, attributed to King David, tells us about the fear of God: "Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever" Psalm 19:9. Men must not only comply with the law of Moses but must also live in fear of God.
Contrary to what we might suppose this fear of God is not in the sense of a passion, like shame, guilt, or panic, that inclines us toward sin or error; but of a loving devotion to the Lord, that is why this spiritual gift is pure, that is, it does not hide selfish motives. The spiritual gift of fear of God is essentially rejecting sin outright without hatred (abhor), like Abel who cannot follow the path of Cain. In other words, it is an intimate union between the human heart and the greatest perfection of God, his wisdom: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom", Proverbs 1:7.
When we live this gift we reach the spiritual growth and the awareness that enlightens us, this mysterious gift is what makes spirituality in man possible, including faith, the opposite of the fear of God is the hardness of heart: "Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man", Ecclesiastes 12:13.
Perhaps a better way to define this spiritual gift would be serenity or piety, but as this spiritual gift is always in reference to the law of Moses, the gift is expressed as an imperative, as if it were one more commandment.
