I don’t know if you have realized but we are coming full circle. That’s right, just think about how we were before the dawn of agriculture. People living in tribal societies were more in touch with nature and had a better balance between “work” and life in general. Our ancestors did not work 8 hours days as the layman or 14 hours days as the entrepreneur. A few hours were enough to hunt and collect food. There was no overpopulation. Enough food was at your disposal. There was no poverty. Everyone had enough. Life was simpler. With all that spare time we focused our energy to connect with our fellow tribesmen. We had time to develop language, storytelling, dances and music … culture.
The very thing we are lacking today, connection with others, a sense of meaning, was created in those little moments that our ancestors had plenty of but we don’t anymore. Modern society has killed those in its attempt to keep the machine going, willingly or unwillingly, we are now faced with the consequences that perhaps started with agriculture. We grew, yes, we became better at controlling our environment; but what was the price for all of that ?; our humanity ?; our bonding capacity ?; our clarity of purpose ?. I think that’s what happened. It was not our fault, it was something that just happened, unforeseen. The same way the industrial revolution did not foresee the impact that a few hundred years later such development would have in our environment.
Not everything is grim. Rest assured, we are coming full circle. We are reconnecting, rediscovering how we once were. We are claiming our status back, we want to feel connected, we want to have a purpose, we want to feel we are contributing, we want. Just see the trend, everything we are doing right now, sustainability, eco-friendliness, super-fast travelling, internet this, internet that, artificial intelligence, etc, etc; is to free us from the constraints of modern life so we can have time in the middle of the day to sit down with our families, tell a story, laugh, dance and just be.
