Hiding in the house in shame to meet friends in the office after a severe fever that left a red eye? No need to be shy, this 'sick' appearance is being loved by Japanese women, especially in Tokyo.
After the face shaving trends and the beautiful sound training, the ladies there came up again with a crazy idea, this time in dressing up. They call it 'me no shita chiiku' (undereye blush).
The idea is to deliberately apply makeup to give the illusion of red eyes, a very bright blush on the cheekbones to look like you're having a fever, and use an undereye shadow to create dark circles around the eyes to create an 'eye bag'.
Actually this trend is not purely derived from Japan. Still remember the 'heroin chic look' popularized by supermodel Kate Moss in the 90's? Rosy Undereyes has sprung up in Paris catwalk since last year. The appearance is now beginning to become mainstream.
Giving colors outside the line may be a sin in the book of beauty, but it does not seem to apply to the fashionistas milling about in Harajuku.
For some women who have tried it, this is part of the attraction, a trend known as 'byojaku' (which means sickly) is now beginning to spread in fashion magazines and beauty blogs. Even appeared also some tutorials to display the impression of lack of sleep. Seriously. (Times of India)
