It looks almost like in science fiction novels – a person’s face is restored in the footsteps of DNA left at the crime scene. Nevertheless, it is a completely realistic technique using genetic DNA markers.
In one of the transmissions of the Air Force, surgeon Gabriel Weston tries to establish the appearance of a man, having only a few cells on his hands. To test the technology, DNA was isolated from the saliva of Gabriel herself and sent to a group of scientists in Belgium.
The transformation of saliva cells into a human image was carried out by Dr. Peter Claes, a specialist in medical imaging at the University of Leuven. Together with colleagues from the United States, he created a database on individuals and DNA, with which he learned to model individuals based on a total of 20 genes.
“WITH THIS INFORMATION,” SAYS PETER CLAES, “I CAN TELL YOU THAT, FOR EXAMPLE, YOUR EYEBROWS STICK OUT FORWARD, AND YOUR CHIN IS VERY BEAUTIFUL.”
As a confirmation of his words, a photograph of Gabriel was applied to the molecular fingerprint. As a result – almost complete coincidence. Now we can safely say that the police have received in their hands a new effective means of searching for criminals.!
