Fall is in the Air - Apple Picking with the Family

in back2basics •  7 years ago

The morning was crisp, the sun was warm, and the sky was a beautiful blue. You couldn't have asked for much more perfect weather to go apple picking for honeycrisp apples at Garwood Orchards in Laporte, Indiana.

Popcorn, Tractor Rides, and Donughts

When my wife, son, and I first arrived we realized we were a little unprepared. We had no idea what we were doing. Luckily, they had bags for a quarter that we could buy to go pick apple's with.

Once we had the bag bought we hopped on the waggon getting pulled by a tractor and quickly picked our apples. My son (who is 2) absolutetly loves apples and loved the experience. Once we had 10 or so apples and my son had 3 apples in his own bucket we hopped in a horse drawn waggon and made our way back.

After picking apples we picked out some fresh made Donughts from the main shop at garwoods, walked through the arts and crafts fair they had going on, and then packed everyone up to go home.

Overall it was an awesome couple of hours we spent there. Would have probably spent a little longer there, but my wifes back and shoulder started to bother here. I think we have a new family tradition one I hope to enjoy for many years down the road. If you've started a new family tradition write a post and share it down below or just comment!
