I started backpacking after finishing uni many years ago. Of course I traveled abroad as a teen with parents. But the real adventure started when I got on a plane with my first 'around the world' ticket doing the solo backpacking thing.
I must confess that I did enjoy flying into Lima (Peru) not knowing anyone. There was no internet and my parents and friends had no idea where I was as I travelled across South America to Brazil. It contrasts to todays generation where paranoid parents are going to the media claiming their son or daughter has 'gone missing'. Back then South America was not a popular place to travel to and it was only the hard core travelers that went there.
I plan to blog on steemit to share some of my adventures in the early days ranging from things going wrong (trains de-railing), ,back packer love affairs with lovely Brazilian girls, issues with the locals (over money of course), danger on the road, all night parties on the beach etc, etc.
