Baitul Mukarram, additionally spelled as Baytul Mukarrom (Arabic: بيت المكرّم‎; Bengali: বায়তুল মোকাররম; The Holy House) is the national mosque of Bangladesh. Situated at the focal point of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, the mosque was finished in 1968.[1] The mosque has a limit of 30,000, making it the tenth greatest mosque on the planet. Be that as it may, the mosque experiences consistent congestion, particularly amid the Islamic blessed month of Ramadan. Thus, the Bangladeshi government have added augmentations to the mosque, expanding its ability to no less than 40,000.

The mosque has a few present day building highlights while in the meantime it saves the customary standards of Mughal engineering which has for quite a while been prevailing in the Indian sub-landmass. Baitul Mukarram's extensive 3D square shape was demonstrated to that of the Ka'abah at Mecca making it a recognizable structure being dissimilar to some other mosque in Bangladesh.

The mosque is on a high stage. The Baitul Mukarram Mosque's building is eight storied and 99 feet high from the beginning. As indicated by the first arrangement, the fundamental passageway of the mosque was to be on the eastern side. The 'shaan' on the east is 29,000 square feet with bathing space on its south and north sides. Bathing or Wu'du Place stored a vital part when the Baitul Mukarram was started. The nonappearance of an arch on the primary building is remunerated by the two shallow domed passageway porticoes, one on the south, and the other on the north. The stature of these porticoes comprises of three rabbit's foot molded curves, the center of which is greater than the rest.

Two porches (roofless inward yard) guarantee that enough light and air enter the supplication corridor of Baitul Mukarram Mosque. The mehrab of the lobby is rectangular rather than semi-roundabout. Exorbitant ornamentation is kept away from all through the mosque, since limiting ornamentation is normal of present day design.

The garden is laid out in a style obtained vigorously from Mughal gardens, however not at all like the conventional Mughal gardens which speak to the Islamic Heaven, the garden does not have the Char-Bagh framework no doubt due to not having enough space for such a garden. The fate of this garden is obscure, if the Bangladeshi government expands the mosque, it will probably need to evacuate the garden.

The mosque complex was planned by designer, Abdulhusein M. Thariani. In 1959, proprietor of then Bawany Jute Mills, Haji Abdul Latif Bawany proposed to Major General Omrao Khan, at that point military director of East Pakistan, of building a grande mosque in Dhaka. Omrao Khan consented to help on building such mosque. Same year, 'Baitul Mukarram mosque board of trustees' had been set up and 8.30 section of land of land between new Dhaka and old Dhaka had been picked. Around then, there was a huge lake in exhibit mosque's area. It was known as 'Paltan lake. The lake was topped off and on 27 January 1960 then leader of Pakistan Ayub Khan initiated the work. The arrangement included shops, workplaces, libraries and stopping regions inside the complex. In spite of the fact that there has been a convention of vault mosque for Muslim, this building did not keep up the govern of customary mosque in that time. A Mosque without a vault over the top of its fundamental supplication lobby more likely than not been a special analysis. The mosque was assembled when the nation was the Part of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
