If you have 7 days in Azerbaijan, here's a suggested itinerary that covers some of the country's most popular destinations:

Day 1: Baku

Explore Azerbaijan's capital city, Baku.

  • Visit the Old City, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features narrow streets, historical buildings, and the iconic Maiden Tower.
  • Then head to the Baku Boulevard, which is a promenade that stretches along the Caspian Sea and offers stunning views of the city skyline.

Day 2: Absheron Peninsula

  • Take a day trip to the Absheron Peninsula, which is located just outside of Baku.
  • Here you can visit the Ateshgah Fire Temple, which is a 17th-century temple that was once used by Zoroastrian fire worshippers.
  • You can also see Yanar Dag, a natural gas fire that burns continuously on a hillside.

Day 3: Gobustan

  • Visit the Gobustan National Park, which is known for its ancient petroglyphs (rock carvings) and mud volcanoes.
  • Take a tour to see the petroglyphs, which date back to the Stone Age and depict animals, people, and other symbols.
  • Then visit the mud volcanoes, which are unique geological formations where mud and gas are expelled from the earth.

Day 4: Sheki

Travel to the city of Sheki, located in the northwest of Azerbaijan.

  • Visit the Sheki Khan's Palace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features beautiful murals and stained glass windows.
  • Then walk through the city's bazaar, which is known for its traditional handicrafts.

Day 5: Lahij

  • Take a day trip to the ancient village of Lahij, which is known for its traditional Azerbaijani handicrafts, such as copperware, pottery, and carpets.
  • You can also visit the Juma Mosque, which is the oldest mosque in the village and dates back to the 10th century.

Day 6: Gabala

Travel to the town of Gabala, located in the north of Azerbaijan.

  • Here you can visit the Gabala Archaeological Center, which features exhibits about Azerbaijan's ancient history.
  • You can also take a cable car ride to the top of Mount Tufandag, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 7: Shamakhi
