You know, it really is true what they say about travel - that you don't really know what you're missing out on until you are actually in the process of living it.
The last time I ventured overseas was in 2007 to China with my family - and it was certainly a trip to remember. In the many years since then, I have frequently told myself that I wanted to travel but, still, like most of us I "never quite got around to it".
Sound familiar?
In 2016, after 9 years, my partner and I found ourselves, overseas, standing in the Tegallalang rice fields on our first day in Bali, Indonesia. This would not have been the case if we continued to ignore our intrinsic desire to explore and express our curiosity for adventure.
We spend a whole week in Bali, travelling through Ubud, Legian, Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua.
We rode elephants, went white water rafting, walked underwater, played with baby monkeys and really got so know some of the locals. I learned how despite their day to day adversities, they are still remain some of the happiest and most generous people on the planet.
Bali is an amazing place to travel and is so rich in culture; for that, I will be sure to return. I have walked away with a collection of memories and experiences that will continue to fuel my desire to seek out more for years to come.
Whether you're a seasoned traveller who has taken some time off, or just like me who decided to take a chance one day, or maybe you are yet to experience the wonders of travelling...
I want to leave you with a concise yet vital message
In the midst of a world so obsessed with speed and full of distractions - with so little time for ourselves; it is too easy to lose sight of the raw qualities of life.
Open up your awareness
Engross yourself in culture
And reconnect with the world by disconnecting, just for a moment, and see where it takes you.
Peace out,
Greg.
I have heard that place is just amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
