Well I thought you may like to know about the latest covid regulation for domestic flight travel in Indonesia - in particular from Jakarta to Bali (the flight I just took last night). Basically there is none - haha. Nobody asked us for proof of vaccine status, recent antigen or PCR test, nothing at all. The flight however was less that 10% full and food and drink service was suspended as part of the new regulations designed to halt he spread of the "new flu". We ere very surprised by the lax attitude of the airline and airports but more than happy not having to ump thru hoops. We arrived on time at Bali airport and my driver Kadek was there to meet us.

We arrived quite late and the streets were deserted. Not late by normal Bali standards though and it was a sobering reminder just how far Bali needs to go before you could say that tourism has "recovered" I mean it was 11pm as we drove thru traditionally the most popular areas of Bali - Kuta, Seminyak and Legion. Normally these places are heaving with tourists until all hours of the morning. Last night it really was like a ghost town and made me feel sad for all the people that had lost their livelihoods from the pandemic restrictions.

Our hotel is a rotting resort that has struggled to re-open two years on. It has a fantastic location right on the beach but you can see that the loss of income has devastated the place. Our rooms are tired and in need of repair. Not even any drinking water in the rooms as the owner explained he was trying to save every possible expense. Water pressure low, internet not working and nothing in the mini bar. But for 25$ a night right on the beach, I can handle a few missing luxuries. Bedding was clean and pillows soft.
Today we cruised around in the morning. Great to be back here after 2 years and just so wonderful to see the locals putting on a brave face and welcome smile. Balinese hospitality is beautiful and is unfailing. We checked out some of the breaks but both agreed today is a rest day. Dropped our boards in for ding repair and enjoyed some western bfast and lunch on the beach. I think tonight will be bean bag beers at one of the cool spots on the beach.....
