Ballroom Dance Competition Highlights January 2018

Some highlights from a ballroom dance competition in January 2018. American Smooth. #Waltz. #Tango. #Foxtrot.

This past weekend I was at a #dance #competition. This event was a little bit smaller than most, but the youth talent there was excellent. The coaches here are certainly grooming some world class talents of the future.

Included is a video I shot of one of the highlights I most enjoyed. At 2:50 there is a really entertaining stunt I have never seen before. The Lead swings his partner across the floor, and she lands perfectly on the balls of her feet! Then they go into a Samba roll as if it was the easiest thing in the world.

The two youth couples were #dancing the American Smooth dances in this video. In the heat format, the judges rank you in each of your individual dances in comparison to the other couples on the floor. Couples are ranked overall in the heat according to how well they ranked in each of the dances they performed.

This is my first dtube video. Is it up to par? You can be the judge in the comments below.

Interesting. Was the stunt you were talking about the girl in the purple was swung so her booty brushed against the floor? If you're going to try something like that, the tango is the right time and it looked like it was executed well, though I'm no dance expert. I would have scored it well. Looked like a fun weekend!

Yeah. That two hand cross arm grab from the floor is a common prep for Swing dance, to send the lady through the man's legs. Often times the choreographer will incorporate patterns from other dance styles, and change the timing to match the music style. That Tango had a lot of variety.

I say it's up to par simply because you did it! Congrats on the dance!
