BANANERA SPIDER
The banana spider or wandering banana. For some scholars it is the most toxic spider in the world; It is a large wandering spider of imposing appearance and aggressive behavior.
Its length can cover the palm of a hand. It has two large frontal eyes and two smaller ones on each side, two long brown-red chelicerae and somewhat thick and hairy legs.
It is found in Brazil and northern Argentina, reaching its introduction in Uruguay. As it is also very fast, this spider is very feared in banana plantations, tropical ports and ships. The most toxic species is Phoneutria phera, which lives only in the jungles between Peru, Brazil, Venezuela and Colombia; As we mentioned before, and unlike other species of arachnids, the banana spider does not keep its cobwebs nor does it usually live in a specific place. On the contrary, this spider remains most of the day hidden under the trunks of the trees or in the crevices, and only in the night is when it leaves its refuge to hunt. When preparing to bite and inject its venom, the banana spider adopts an intimidating posture, raising its front legs. On the other hand, it is necessary to emphasize that the banana spider does not have a good vision, although it is the only spider able to vary the coloration of its web according to the environmental conditions.
