Pohela Boishak is the first day of Bangla New Year. This day is celebrated as New Year in Bangladesh. It is a universal folk festival of Bengalis. On this day, the new year is celebrated in the lively environment. New Year is the symbol of welfare and new life. New Year is celebrated for the sake of forgetting the mistakes and failures of the past and for new happiness and peace. On this day, all public private companies are closed.

The Bengali New Year celebrations started mainly from Akbar's time. At that time, the farmers of Bengal used to pay the rent of zamindars, talukdars and other landlords till the last day of Chaitra month. The next day the landlords used to sweeten them. On this occasion, fair and other events were arranged. Gradually, Pahela Baishakh became closely associated with family and social life, and became a festival-oriented and Bengali New Year was celebrated as Happy New Year.

In the past, the main festival of Bangla New Year was halkhata. This is an economic affair. The traders of the village-Ganj-city open their accounts in the beginning of the New Year and open a new account book. On this occasion, they distributed sweets, inviting new and old customers and newly formed business links with them. The traditional festival is celebrated today.

A mandatory organ of Baishakhi festival in Dhaka is a mandatory rally. At the initiative of Fine Arts Institute of Dhaka University, this school was completed in the morning of Pahela Boishakh and after completing various roads of the city, it was completed again at the Fine Arts Institute. In this procession, the rural life and the weather of Bengal were highlighted.

Bangla Academy, Nazrul Institute, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Bangladesh National Museum, Chayant, Bulbul Lalitkala Academy, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Nazrul Academy, Liberation War Museums, Engineers Institution, etc. and organizations of the country's cultural organizations accept various programs. There are cultural programs, discussion meetings, colorful procession, Baishakhi fair etc. In these programs, special programs are organized on Bangladesh Betar and Teheli Pahela Boishakh. Apart from this, special supplements, including Bangaband, New Year and Bengali culture, have been published in newspapers.

India's cultural capital, Calcutta, is playing a key role in celebrating Pohela Boishakh. On the occasion of Navabarsha, various activities of the city were organized in the streets of the city. In the last year's Chaitra month, many discounts are offered on the purchase of most stores in the city, whose current name is 'Chaitra Cell'. So, on the occasion of Pohela Baishakh and all the people of Calcutta purchase new clothes, etc., regardless of the economic status to take advantage of this discount.

On the day of Pohela Baishakh, in the famous Kalighat temple in Calcutta, with a significant crowd. There are many businessmen waiting in the morning to start halqa by worshiping the goddess and worshiping the goddess. Apart from businessmen, many households also went to Kalighat to pray for the blessings of the goddess, wishing for the good of the family. Traditional traditions such as new dhoti-punjabi and sari are available as traditional clothes of Bengalis this day.

In addition to Bangladesh and India, the first Baishakh is celebrated in many other countries of the world. Basically, the expatriate Bengalis celebrate the first Baishakh in those countries.
