Barcelona officially announced the extension of the contract defender Gerard Pique until 2022. They also make Pique as a player with the value of the second most expensive contract termination clause under Lionel Messi.
Through its official website, Barcelona said both sides have reached an agreement. But it is not yet certain when the signing of the new contract will be made.
"FC Barcelona and Gerard Pique have reached an agreement to extend the contract until June 30, 2022," wrote Barcelona in the official announcement. "In the next few days, the club will announce the official signing date, which will keep La Masia's product up until the end of the season and for the next four years."
Through the announcement, Barcelona said the value of the termination clause Pique jumped from 200 million euros to 500 million euros. But it is not clear how much salary that will be received by the 33-year-old defender.
Pique is one of the best players dropout academy La Masia Barcelona. But he had a chance to leave for Manchester United in 2004 and newly re-purchased Barcelona in 2008. During his 10-year career with La Blaugrana, Pique has presented 25 trophies, including six Spanish League champions and three Champions League trophies.
The highest termination clause clause in Barcelona is currently still held by Lionel Messi. The Argentine striker was fenced with a value of 700 million euros in his new contract.
