I'll never forget the first time I poured the powder on my kitchen counter and lined it with a credit card. I was taught how to snort the stimulant during a week-long advanced training undercover school in Austin, Texas. Of course we didn't sniff real cola. We were taught how to fake a snort. This is my admission of cocaine use as head of narcotics for the Gladewater Police Department.
When I invited you to hear my life stories, I promised to tell all my secrets no matter how embarrassing or shameful they may be. I admit my life is marked with hypocrisy and madness and I give you permission to judge and hate me for it. I deserve both reactions. I am forty-seven years old and it feels good to come clean.
Head of narcotics at Gladewater Police Department
I cannot remember an instance when I did not have marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine in my home. My employer provided the drugs to use as training aids. K9 handlers must conduct frequent training exercises to maintain their dog's accuracy and proficiency. A drug dog will become "trashy" and begin false alerting if the training is neglected.
In another installment of Former Narc Turned Humanitarian - A Life Series by Barry Cooper, I'll explain how I blew the whistle on trashy police dogs and exposed that K9 officers secretly trigger false alerts to gain probable cause to search.
The cocaine delivered the wonderful speedy rush that it's famous for. I suddenly understood why people risked their freedom to use the white powder. I realized the propaganda wasn't true when I didn't go crazy so I invited my wife to try a line. Within minutes, we had both committed a felony and became the worst hypocrites imaginable.
Thirty minutes later we committed our second and soon our third and then our fourth drug crime. Before morning arrived, we owed the Gladewater Police Department a little over a gram of K9 training aid. Nobody told us the powdered aphrodisiac would exponentially intensify our bedroom play. I was an experienced twenty-five year old but I didn't learn how to have sex until that night.
We mistakingly interpreted the normal and healthy desire for pleasure as drug addiction. It's a good thing we were dedicated Christians who knew how to make the devil release his grip on our souls. As husband and wife drug addicts, we hit our knees and earnestly prayed for the Lord to deliver us. We bound Satan by casting him back into hell. Apparently God doesn't listen to high disciples because we continued our sin every weekend for the next month.
I decided to get right with God by striking a deal to no longer arrest drug dealers. The bargain worked and magically allowed me to stop using the demonic substance. Apparently my wife didn't make as good of a deal.
While I was at work, she was sneaking and sharing cocaine with her girlfriend. I was never invited to the abominations. I did get to fantasize about the deviations after she confessed in detail what the devil was making her do to her girlfriend.
To save her soul and my career, I was forced to remove the temptation by safely storing the lust dust in the filing cabinet of my office located at the Gladewater Police Department. I noticed the sack slowly becoming lighter and lighter like it did when the cocaine was in the custody of the two ladies and Lucifer. I interrogated my wife and learned she was satisfying her one month hard core addiction by frequently lunching with me in my office.
I thanked the Lord for tipping me off to an upcoming policy before it was issued. My wife informed me I had been targeted for an official investigation and my training aids were going to be weighed. Earlier she had confessed her sins to the Chaplain of our department who violated ministerial confidentiality by reporting the drug use to my Chief.
I knew the cocaine was going to be weighed and my bag was light. By the time all the math was done, I was fourteen grams short. I heard God's voice tell me to replace the missing weight with the baking soda from my refrigerator. One day later, my boss asked for my stash. The new directive ordered all dog handlers to store their narcotics in the locked evidence room.
My ex-wife and I promoting our church several years after the cocaine incident
I was so thankful and impressed with God's wisdom. He delivered me from the devil's plan of putting me in jail while curing my wife's illness by making it impossible for her to access her supply.
I quit law enforcement less than a month later and returned to a different department for only a brief moment as a reserve officer.
I became a preacher after the same police chaplain recognized the Lord had called me to continue as a soldier in the Drug War. For the next six years, I delivered anointed anti-drug sermons while standing in front of sinners and behind a pulpit. Because of my gift for seizing drugs, I was empowered by God and could easily preach an hour from any page of the Bible.
In an upcoming episode of Former Narc Turned Humanitarian - A Life Series by Barry Cooper, I'll share how I performed miracles that caused teenagers to drop their bags of marijuana at the altar.
I have a cassette tape recording of the first sermon I ever preached. I'll post it on Steemit if you Upvote this true story that details how I went from drug agent to drug addict to drug preacher in only eight years.
Note to my guests: I realize I used a sarcastic tone while describing my cocaine use. I did this on purpose to show the ridiculousness of prohibition and how it doesn't work and never will. I am fully aware of the seriousness and darkness of my hypocrisy. I'm nothing like that now. Thanks for listening to my story.

I love your raw honesty. It's makes you a dynamic writer. People that have interesting stories don't need to worry about being "bloggers." This community is far more worried about content instead of grammatical correctness.
I believe your stories are more than worth sharing and I hope that you not only continue to share your stories, but maybe you could anonymously publish others who have inside information on the drug trade (similar to what @stellabelle has done with #secret-writer ) I'm sure there will be some who wish to share their stories, but fear for safety or job security.
Keep the great stories rolling @barrycooper !

Wow! Thanks for sharing and being so transparent with the community...I have a poem written about the addictive nature of using cocaine...Its called "Eniacoc." Its written from the standpoint of the cocaine. You can check it out here Barry: https://steemit.com/addiction/@steemit-life/eniacoc-poem-by-steemit-life

Thanks for spending your time here @steemit-life. Your poem was nice. I upvoted it. I must express that cocaine is not that addictive. A person must have a lot of trauma and no support to become addicted to cocaine. Opiate addiction can happen rather quickly because opiates create a physical dependency that if not met, will make the addict very sick. It takes a massive amount of cocaine for a person to become addicted. Cocaine is actually a safe drug to use.

"I was empowered by God and could easily preach an hour from any page of the Bible." Would of say that it would be better with "empowdered by God", lol I loved your post.

It's good to own up to one's own hypocrisy, Man; I've had to do it numerous times myself. Ironically, though, a consistently sound, exegetical reading of the Bible leads to a denouncement of prohibition and of the drug war. It also leads to a rejection of statism in general (e.g., the tyrannical Roman empire was deemed a "beast" in the book of Revelation).
By original design (and not always description), civil governance is severely limited to issues of justice in a biblical worldview, and a high priority is placed on self-government. Though it may be sinful and self-destructive, drug abuse can in no way be considered a civil crime in Christianity. Sin doesn't automatically equal civil crime.
A sound reading of Scripture also leads one to believe that drug use is not inherently sinful. It can be, but not inherently. Individual Christians and churches might say otherwise--and they oftentimes do--but their sentiments aren't morally or exegetically justifiable. And given the doctrine of inspiration (i.e., that God breathed out the words of Scripture, as per 2 Tim. 3:16), Christians are supposed to care about exegesis.

Thanks for you insights @expatlove. I'm not longer a Christian so for me, the only "sin" is to use force other than in self defense. Peace and love to you and thanks for finding interest in my stories.

Based on the number of quotable lines this is your best post ever!
And if it hasn’t been done already someone needs to make a collage of your ever-changing appearance thru the years. I think my favourite is “70s Kopbuster Barry”. You could be a whole line of action figures.

A big NO to drugs. I hate drugs. Here in the Philippines, people will used that will kill by our police. Our President hated people who are using that.

That's a horrible policy. Killing someone because they chose a life style. Faschistic I would say.
The war on drugs is a war on people, not on drugs.
