Cool little bar, fish tank could use some work

Every now and then we branch out a bit and go to a slightly fancier bar / restaurant than our usual dives. This time around saw us visiting "Western World" and from what I can tell this Americana oriented type establishment is actually quite common in this country.

It was ok, but like a lot of places in Thailand, the band was entirely too loud and communicating with your friends was not an easy task. It actually kind of made it difficult to enjoy yourselves. Oh well, the ambiance was pretty great otherwise.

One thing I really don't understand is why they would go to all the trouble of having such an enormous fish tank and then do so little to actually make it look nice. If it was a tank for selecting fish to eat I would understand but that is not what is going on here. This tank is purely for looks and I guess I was happy the inhabitants had so much space but it was featureless otherwise.

I've had fish tanks in the past and I always tried to have a bunch of rocks or bubble strips or something in there. Maybe even a pirate ship. In my mind the only excuse for how boring this tank was would be if it was just recently added.

I don't know if these are the genuine article. I would say they almost certainly are not since a genuine original poster for "A Few Dollars More" normally sell online for over $1000 each.

It did make me laugh a bit to see the owner's interest in Clint Eastwood films because I haven't actually seen either one of these films - perhaps I should get to know my own country a bit better.

We hung out here for a couple of hours until everyone got tired of shouting in order to be able to talk. It ended up costing everyone around 500 baht per person, which isn't too bad if you consider that this included food and drinks and that Western World is seen as one of the fancier hangouts in town.

I probably wouldn't return though. I don't care how fancy and nicely decorated a place is. If I can't talk to the people I went there to see, I'm not going to enjoy myself.

I understand what you feel and agree. It's frustrating when you have to shout in order to have a conversation and energy consuming too. People go there to relax. They are going to lose customers that way. I've seen it before.
