I told you this was going to be a good series... The Washington Nationals came out swinging on Tuesday night beating the Houston Astros 7 to 2 and forcing an epic show down for the title of World Series Champion.
What was that I mentioned about streaks?
Last nights win by the Nationals means that no home game has been won by the home team this entire series. I would have to look up the statistics, but I am not sure this has ever happened before.
In addition to that, the loss by Verlander means that he has yet to win a single World Series game he has pitched in.
That last statistic is really sad for me. I am an unapologetic fan of Verlander starting with his time on the Tigers. It was sad to see such amazing talent go to waste with the teams we had. Additionally, it was even more depressing when he was traded away and went on to a team that won the World Series.
Perhaps if he had been pitching against anyone other than Strasburg he might have had a chance. The Nationals pitcher went a full eight and a half innings totally shutting down the Astros offense after giving away two runs in the first.
Against anyone else the bats of Houston may have stood a chance. It also might have made up for the three runs that Verlander gave away across five innings. JV just didn't seem like he was on his game snagging only 3 strikes and giving up three walks.
This was a stark contrast to the seven strikeouts outs and only two walks from Strasburg. Washington also reminded us they can hit putting up twice the runs in one night than they did total in the past three games. On top of that they hit four home runs with Soto's being over 400 feet.
Tonight should be a pretty fantastic game. Since everything is on the light tonight, the Nationals are changing up their rotation and going back to their ace Scherzer. Taking the mound for the Astros will be Greinke who was the catalyst for the Astros three game run earlier in the series.
Who will emerge as the World Series Champs? Tune in tonight or check back here tomorrow morning!
