Padres vs Cubs - 25 Spring Training Pictures

in baseball •  6 years ago  (edited)

I'm just a fan that grew up in San Diego and is excited about the farm league and where the Padres are headed the next couple of years. So It's Padres Time! #friarfaithful

ARIZONA VISIT = BASEBALL PHOTOGRAPHY

I come to Arizona every year in February (6 in a row) but this is the first time I've been here this late in the month. So I'm heading to some Spring Training games... so expect to see some baseball photography for the next week or so. Actually I rarely get to photograph much sports.

So it's fun roaming the stadium and seeing what caught my eye and trying to place myself where there could be some action.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHY

  • I wasn't anywhere a fan couldn't go.
  • I just used my 105mm lens... helps it's a fancy f1.4 lens
  • I did have my 24-70 but only used that for the very last shot in the post
  • The d850 has a pretty fast FPS (Frames per second) so that was nice to use.
  • Yes I wouldn't mind getting a press pass or a front row seat and see if the pictures are even better... but i know no one over there.
  • Yep i'm going to a few more games

Wil Myers chilling in the duggout... not all the big names make it to each spring training game, but Wil started the game.

Manny Machado wasn't there for this game but the young phenom Tatis came in part way through the game.

COOL MOMENTS

The first shot of the post is after a homerun by ty france

This shot was after Naylor "Stole Home" technically what happened is the catcher threw to second to because of a stolen base attempt and Naylor came in pretty easily... but still pretty impresive. Naylor isn't the smallest guy on the team... let's put it that way. haha

I didn't really have much of a telephoto but I did enjoy getting this shot.

Luckily I was pretty close and was able to get this shot... look closely at the glove.

Brushing them off the plate... I just love how it

And a nice batting shot is also fun to have. I tried many different angles and lots of shots to get a good timing on ball in motion. Ty did get a home run... I can't remember if this was the home run swing.

PITCHING

At Sloan park the bullpen is situated where you can take some pretty awesome pictures... and for mid-day games the shadows look pretty awesome towards the end of the game.

It was kinda fun to see them get a phone call and then the guy call out "Higgins you're going in"

I even got a picture of a Cub.

I just love the standard pitching wind up... nothing special just fun to have a a couple from each game.

FAN INTERACTION - SIGNINGS

THE PADRES FANS

PADRES CANDIDS

I don't even remember taking this one or who this is... Ty?

Oh come on Pirela... smile a bit more!

One of the other up and coming stars before the game getting warmed up.

SLOAN PARK

It was lovely... next up I'll need to go to a bunch more spring training parks and compare.

hi @jarvie
your post is really interesting and I would call it a real sports report.
I love watching sports, especially if they are team games, to see the interactions between teammates, the steps, how they work to reach the goal. And you made these moments very well immortalizing them with your shots, both on the field and out. Truly beautiful photos! Congralutations and thanks for sharing with us

Wow these are great!

Oh!
Great and nice photos there Jarvie!
By the way I'd seen a hashtag #friarfaithful.
What was that?
Any friars involved?

They're the padres and their mascot is a Friar. haha

Oh yeah!
I love it!
The mascot is also wearing a habit like a friar?

Yep

Cool!
A Franciscan or Dominican habit?

You must be quite happy about Manny's acquisition. All of the pics are amazing mate, there are ones that impacted more than others but overall this is a nice set you photoed. I'm a White Sox fan. Cheers dude.
