J.D. Martinez, Me ... and the Red Sox

Sure, CCB, and I hope you will go back to my other baseball pieces here and on www.UberThoughtsUSA.com amongst the political, entertainment and others I've done. I'd like to think that at least some of them are "timeless."

I was hoping Boston would not sign Hosmer, actually, and it looks like he was never on their radar -- certainly not after they re-signed Moreland fairly early on to play 1B. I thought Hosmer was an OK hitter but an overrated fielder. Like Derek Jeter, Hosmer made the plays he got to but didn't get to nearly as many as an average-to-good 1B. Since his glove was supposed to be part of the value, and since Boston wasn't going to value a low-range glove that much, he made no sense to them. I think the GM saw it that way from the start. The bat Boston needed was bigger than what Hosmer would bring, and they needed a right-hand hitter far more as Fenway is a really tough park in right.
