A First for the Yankees

It’s hard to imagine that the Yankees with their league leading 27 World Series trophies and the revered lineups and pitchers of the past don’t own most records. So in the fortieth game when Giancarlo Stanton smacked his tenth home run over the right center wall on Sunday, the Yankees accomplished something they’ve never done before; have four players hit 10 or more home runs at the fortieth game mark.

"Look, we have a really good lineup," manager Aaron Boone said. "I just love the way they go about it."

They’d never done that before in their storied franchise history and in fact they’d never done that in fifty games either. The Yankees are the first team to accomplish the feat since the 2003 Rangers did it with their quartet of Rafael Palmeiro, Carl Everett, Juan Gonzalez and Alex Rodrigez. Now Didi Gregorius, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge can say the same thing.

The Yankees have 56 home runs on the year, which is good for second in the league. Between the fearsome foursome, they have 41 of the 56 of the teams home runs. Gregorius, Stanton, and Sanchez have ten while Judge leads the team with eleven.

Stanton collected his second four hit game of the season on Sunday and picked up his 999thhit in the process. He was the last member to get to 10 home runs as he’s struggled for much of his first season in the Bronx. A number of lefties have brightened his stat line lately though as he is hitting a robust .457 with seven dingers against them as opposed to righties which he’s hitting a mere .192 with three jacks.

Looking forward to seeing them in June when they visit the Phillies. I allow my son to like them as his second favorite team since they are in the American League 🤣

Go blue 😋😎

This is a cool but obscure stat. It's incredible what minutia our data base of sports information can find for us to marvel at today.
