The final of the much talked about and much anticipated Schools Basketball Competition come to a dramatic end today 4th of October 2019 at the main basketball court of Rare Gem Academy.
It has been an eventful five days of exciting and highly captivating games of basketball by these young lads who have shown a very top class performance of basketball game. Judging by the quality of the six teams that participated in this tournament, one can only but say the sky sky is the starting point for some of these boys. From the first game down to the last game of the competition,the bar has always been so high in term of performance and competiiveness of all the schools playing against each other.
Before the final match,there was third place match played between Air force Secondary School and Christ Supreme Academy yesterday Thursday 3rd of October 2019. The match may be seen as losers final but the two teams did not disappoint the fans at all with skills and willingness to make the podium.
The match eventually ended 54-52 points in favour of Christ Supreme Academy who came distance 5th during the last edition f the competition. To the delightful of the Supreme coach,he was over joy and happy that his team has been able to better their performance by placing third and defeating a much experienced and tall opponent in Air Force Secondary School. The coach however, promised that the team will start in earnest preparation for the next edition on time as all the weaknesses of his team will be worked on to have a formidable team next time calling.
And with the third place match played yesterday and the winner now known. All roads leads to the final between the host Rare Gem Academy who are making their second consecutive appearance in the final haven't lost the title to the same team they are playing now, the boys from Excel Universal College who happened to be the defending champions.
The match been the final was light up with some side attractions and musical performance to create an atmosphere of sports. After the introduction of the players from both side and photograph, the first five players that will start the game were called into the court for the commencement of the match.
Jump ball was won by Rare Gem Academy to the delight of the home team supporters who were there to give the needed moral support to their darling team.
There was little or nothing to separate the two teams has first quarter ended 14-14 points all. The second quarter started on a very bright note for Excel as they lead by 34-28 points to go to the half time. At this points the supporters of the home team were becoming so agitating as another defeat in the hands of the same team that denied them the title will be painful.
Third quarter saw the teams tied again at 48-48. Going into the fourth and final quarter the momentum shifted and host took a massive gamble if playing three guards, this resulted into a more faster game than what the Excel boys could handle as this lead to two of Excel best foul out.
At that juncture, the was Rare Gem to lose. Eventually Rare Gem Academy won by 64-55 points to become the champions.
