Andrea Trinchieri: We believed in ourselves

Brose Bamberg completed one of the EuroLeague’s greatest ever comebacks to snatch an 84-81 win over Barcelona and head coach Andrea Trinchieri even admitted that this a first for him.

Down 38-12 after the first quarter, Bamberg’s fans were shellshocked and in awe of Barcelona’s all-round clinical expertise.

But as soon as the second quarter started, a new Bamberg came to the floor and started gradually pick Barcelona apart, and then Dorell Wright completed the comeback with a bank shot for a 75-74 Bamberg lead with 4:11 left, as they held on for the win.

“It’s the first time this has happened to me, down by [26] against a big team,” Trinchieri said.

“First quarter was a nightmare. I believe that if I asked one of my players then ‘What’s your name?’ He would have answered the wrong way. We were not ready to play. And then we put together a very effective second quarter on defence and then we started believing.

“I don’t believe in miracles. That’s not for basketball; that’s for more important things. I believe that if you work hard and you believe in yourself, you can build opportunities. And that’s what we did, we built opportunities to play this game.

“And then we believed in ourselves. We made big plays. Basically everybody helped the team. This is the biggest team win I can imagine, everybody put his name on this win, offence and defence.”
