It was 25 years ago when the international basketball world was turned upside down.
It was on this day when the United States of America sent a chilling statement to the Olympic basketball community with a resounding 116-48 thumping over African powerhouses Angola.
At the time, Angola were a recognised basketball nation and a dominant force in African hoops. Yet Charles Barkley was unmoved.
“I don’t know anything about Angola, but Angola’s in trouble,” Barkley emphatically said.
Via ESPN.
The words were infamous and they were never truer. The forward inserted himself into the game and produced one of the most dominant inside displays seen at the Olympics.
It was a sign of things to come as the Dream Team cruised to gold without calling a timeout and winning by an average of 44 points.
