Markelle Fultz; The Biggest Bust in NBA History
He’s 19 years old, hasn’t played 5 games, & will go down in NBA History as the biggest bust in NBA History. Unfortunately for Fultz, the title of biggest bust has more to do with the players draft class then his own misfortunes as a player. If this was based on talent alone Anthony Bennett, drafted #1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013 & already out of the league, would certainly claim this title.
Below is the 2013 Lottery Picks. Victor Oladipo who has finally broken out in his first season with the Pacers is the only player on this list to make an All Star Team team. In fact out of these 14 players, I would argue 9/14 will be out of the league within the next 5 years & aside from Oladipo, Only C.J McCollum will be a future all star.
Darko Milicic, Who in 2003 was drafted second ahead of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, & Dwyane Wade….. 3 shoe ins for the Hall Of Fame is certainly higher on the list of biggest draft bust than Anthony Bennet.
Sam Bowie, the #2 overall pick in 1984 was drafted ahead of the GOAT Michael Jordan (3), & Future hall of famers Charles Barkley (5), John Stockton (16).
Greg Oden, the #1 overall pick in 2007 was drafted ahead of Kevin Durant (2), arguably the best player on the planet right now, Al Horford, & Mike Conley Jr.
The 1984 & 2003 NBA Drafts were the 2 best draft classes, followed very closely by the 1996 draft which produced Iverson, Kobe, Nash, & Ray Allen.
All of this leads me to Markelle Fultz, and the 2017 Draft Class, which will go down as Top 3 in NBA History when its all said and done.
Jayson Tatum, Lauri Markkanen, Dennis Smith Jr, Donovan Mitchell, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma. These 7 rookies are destined for greatness. Bam Adebayo, DeAron Fox, Malik Monk, etc. The talent in this draft class is insane. And then theres Markelle Fultz, who was drafted ahead of every single one of them. His shot is broken, his confidence is gone, & quite frankly he never should have been picked #1 overall. The fact the 76ers traded next years top 5 pick & the #3 pick, which turned out to be Jayson Tatum, only makes this worse.
& oh ya, lets not forget that Ben Simmons is technically part of this Rookie Class, a future MVP candidate.
While Philadelphia might think they can Trust The Process, theres a big difference between Joel Embiid who never touched the court due to knee injuries, and Markelle Fultz. Fultz should be thankful that Lavar Ball exists, because his big mouth is the only thing thats hiding the fact that Markelle cant even make the 15 man active rotation for the 76ers.
