In the American revolutionary war on August 16, 1777 in the Battle of Bennington, it was an influential battle in Vermont. It commemorates a series of Skirmishes Rebel forces made from Massachusetts and New Hampshire were militiamen at around 2,000 men and the green mountain boys who were led by American General John Stark. This would strike the first blow that led to the British defeat at the Battle of Saratoga. Vermont has a monument from the Battle of Bennington bigger than anything in Yorktown or Gettysburg. The Battle of Bennington was one of the most important battles of the world. In the summer commanded by John Burgoyne invaded Champlain Valley from Canada and the forces included Hessians, British forces, and some Native Americans. Burgoyne captured mount independence from Ticonderoga, and also fought a hard battle at the hills from Vermont that was won by a struggle. He and his men were going to move all the way to South Edward but was running low on supplies. He then heard there is a cash of American weapons at Bennington which was 20 miles from the Hudson Valley. He planned to send a force of mainly 700 Hessian soldiers and bonds to lead them east 20 miles toward Bennington. He needed to capture the weapons and not only that, but horses for a source of food. So that army was heading to Bennington but within 5 miles, his army wasn't doing well. At the point of a river, Bonds wrote on the end of the barrel “send help” and floated it down the river. John Stark had a plan to defeat the British. He and his 15,000 troops went to the top of the hill and shot the men rushing down. This British camp had 60 Hessians camped on a flat ground. They outnumbered the Hessians by 10 -1 and the fighting went on for about 2 hours. The Americans then hand to hand combat fought and the Hessians that could get away ran down the hill and left. When General Buam got 200 local loyalist and put it on a hill to protect the bridge that led to their camp. This hill was a vulnerable spot for them so when they got 200 loyalist they tried to protect but then they got shot up and the British had no choice, but to retreat and try to save their lives. Only one ran away and his name was Frederick Bambam who ran south through a field but, was hit with a musket ball by the Americans and died from his wound. After this the war appeared to be over but that wasn't what happened. Sent by Burgoyne he brought 500 men there led by Colonel Hiendrick Bremen. Then by a ravine they began to fight the Americans and the Americans were losing their line that was starting to give away. The Americans then behind them heard cheering. At first they thought they were getting flanked but it was the men from Vermont that went to help and save the Americans. The Vermont troops who had 500 troops attacked through another ravine which drove the British back. This went on until dark. Then the British retreated. Stark from America brought 200 prisoners to Bennington and more than 200 wounded or dead.
