I once again fired up my old SNES and decided to give Donkey Kong country a play. All was going good as I zoom past stage after stage ... UNTIL ..... I reached level 2-2 (Mine Card Carnage) and memories of rage quitting the game seek back in my memory due to the amount of plays it use to take me to complete that crazy stage.
Jumping at the exact right moment was no easy feat as a child and it didn't seem to get any easier as an adult. If you have ever played the SNES then you likely have played this game and know exactly what I'm talking about.
As an adult I have slightly more patience then I did as a child so I didn't rage quit this time and pushed forward. I'm not going to lie to you, the ever so familiar, "Game Over" did make its way to my screen a time or two but I did beat the stage and a few others before calling it quits for the day (I'll finish the rest of the game in the upcoming days).
Five Fun Donkey Kong Facts
Donkey Kong Country became the Nintendo's best selling video game that wasn't bundled with the game console itself in 1994.
Donkey Kong was the first game to tell a story via cut scenes, something almost every game does today.
Mario is the villain of the game series. In Donkey Kong Jr. Mario is keeping Donkey Kong caged up.
In 2008, Don Hodges found an Easter egg buried in Atari 400’s Donkey Kong. That Easter Egg displays the coder Landon M Dyer’s name on the credits screen after a series of actions are completed.
In 1982, Universal sued Nintendo over the use of Donkey Kong. They claimed that Donkey Kong was too similar to their film King Kong. Universal lost and had to pay Nintendo’s legal fees.
Oh man I loved that game! It's been a long time since I played it.
