Nerds of Steemit, Show me Your Battlestation!

in battlestation •  8 years ago  (edited)

Every nerd has their sacred space in which they enter the digital realm. Some call it a computer, others a workspace, some call it a studio, while others call it a battlestation.

Battletation setups of all shapes and sizes are seen across the world as those who've harnessed the usage of one of the most amazing technical advancements our species ever managed to produce so far to date. Between computers and the internet the way things operate has rapidly changed & evolved, vastly altering our way of life as humans on earth.

Admittedly my current setup is meager in comparison to some of the highly specialized multi-thousand dollar setups some elite nerds run... It does serve it's purpose though!

Battlestation Armaments:

Laptop - Asus k55n
Turntables - Stanton T62 + T80
Mixer - Berhinger BCD2000
Speakers - KRK Rockit 5's / KRK Rockit 10s Subwoofer
Keyboard - Yamaha KX25 Midi

Flaunt Your BattleStation in the Comments!

Thats pretty cool! Mines a Samsung Galaxy Tab E tablet ! Haha , heeh ! I do all my steeming on it and it gets the job done , SO FAR LOL ! 😂👍😉

Neat little tablet! I like the stripes you got going on there.

Lol thanks ! thats the zebra cover i ordered seperate ! It stands the tablet up so i dont have to hold it , plus it covers the sceen when im done for protection ! 👍😉

Surely... you don't type your posts on a touchscreen? I admire your patience :)

My Ikea Jerker desk is overloaded. PC running Ubuntu. There's another PC out of sight plus two Raspberry Pi. Assorted audio gear and lots of guitar picks

Desk

That's more like my home setup too.
Not so much the hardware, but the random surrounding items :-)
Funny how they breed.

There are a few guitars just out of shot :)

I bet there is.

I love the mess! True sign of creativity :)

I do try to tidy now and again. It just piles up again

That's how I work too. It doesn't need to be messy, it just always is. Absolutely my favourite until now.

Awesome! Looks like a well used and loved rig!

It's use all the time. No time to tidy up.

Cool idea!

I'm a desktop guy, find it inefficient to work on a laptop. Love my convertible (Surface Pro) for content consumption though. Here's me -

And a bonus. No one works on these anymore, but boy is it cool!

Nice setup you got there!

And what on earth is the device in the second picture?

That's a Steenbeck - where films were edited before computers came along :)

Cool man! very neat stuff!

Is this a microfiche reader?

It's a non-linear editing system. Indeed, the concept is the same for the screen - whereas microfiche readers used static sheets, here they use film reels. You could make edits and play them back in real time. Amazingly, this was revolutionary at the time! Now it's far too easy with software editors.

This is the 'little system' that I sit in front of when I go into the office.

At home, it's typically just my laptop but sometimes I plug it into another monitor.
I don't have turntables though.

For my next setup that I'll hopefully build when the older AMD stuff price drops a bit more will be aiming for a multi monitor setup. Nice workstation for sure!

Get the new Ryzen CPUs - they are great value for money! I believe there's a Ryzen 5 six-core starting at $250. Gets you 6 cores 12 threads versus Intel's 4 cores 4 thread i5 for the same price.

Or I could get an AMD FX-8370 8 core for $160... :D

Or a 8-thread Ryzen 5 1400/1500X for $170/190 :) It's going to be better than FX-8370. But I'd seriously recommend the 12-thread Ryzen 5 1600X - looks like an absolute bargain for $250 and will last you for years to come.

$250 is a lot of money.. And to be fair the Ryzen stuff is overall just way more expensive..

Get an entry level Ryzen PC or build a Best of 2 Years ago rig for cheaper!

Oh hell yeah man! That is a sick setup. What DAW is that?

Oh I'm using Ableton :)
I used to have white-fluorescent lights in this room, but changing it to yellow downlights made a whole lot of difference to the feel of the room.. kinda makes it cozy, and perhaps lazy too lol

Ah cool man. I'm an FL10 knda guy myself but it doesn't really what you use as long as it works for you. :)

Hey, you have the same speakers as @klye! Different legs though :) You should consider an alternative career as a leg model.

Hairless man legs!

They are in high demand! Especially in advertising.

Yeah.... Nice leg....uups.. I mean your computer stuff....ha...ha.. ! Nice ! :)

My humble command center. :) It's a bit cramped but it works for me.

Digging the space man! Has a very hardcore gamer vibe.

Definitely a gamer vibe. If I'm not learning then I'm probably gaming. I'm surprised at all the sound production setups. It seems like a cool thing to get in to. :)

That does look cozy! You should use that expensive iMac more :)

Thanks :) it was my dad's, and is quite old. Like 2005 I think. Mainly use it for the quality screen.

Great initiative!

Most of the time I just use my MacBook, but when I really want to get some work done, I head over to my workspace:

A fine home office station.. DIgging the large monitor!

Thanks, I especially use it for video-editing. But as it has UHD resolution, everything looks pretty crispy on it :-)

I like yours better! :)

Ha ha, thanks :-)

Just a big ol' gamercomputer to run 2d and 3d graphics. I'm using Mageia Linux with KDE windows-manager. Else it's just my trusty wacom cintiq and a lot of mess.

Really cool to be able to peek at your working space. Looks like the desktop of a creative person :-)

Damn look at the size of that monitor..! am jelly!

Ive made desk myself (mostly IKEA parts)

Oh man! THAT is a slick looking setup I must say!

Thanks ;) I'm planning to add some rgb led backlight to make desk look even cooler:P
btw I have some (I think) cool shelf above that

That is bad ass man. :D

Small is beautiful :-)

Nice advanced tech crew and battlestation!

Works like a charm

Hahahahah. Very nice battlestation Lord Vader!

nice post @klye

Thanks Silvia!

Loving the mask next to the battlestation!

Guy Fawkes would be proud.

Nice! I have the same KRK Rokits... love them!

Was the first studio monitors I bought. Haven't had issues with them really. Great entry level monitors!

The screen is too small.
Nah, I won't upload mine since it's even smaller than yours.

Going to replace the aging laptop here soon when I get the time to research and order parts for a new build.

Last time I built a PC from scratch is over a decade ago. Pretty neat to catch up on the hardware side of stuff. May get a TV for main monitor and two smaller side ones locally for maximum display. Pretty pumped! The smaller flat screen monitors sell on the local market for as cheap as $20. So secondary screens will be cheap.

No shame in a small battlestation. It's what you do with it that counts!

Hey hey, @klye - those are snazzy matching milk crates. LOL (my milk crates are black and decorated with dust bunnies).
I have a similar state of the art set up... minus the turn tables and keyboard... and I have a metal folding chair that is totally uncomfortable. hahahaaaa

One day need to improve my chair a bit. I have an old 1970's office chair but it's a low back and it makes my neck hurt.. lol

nice turntables :)

Mismatched set I bought off a friend years ago with the BCD-2000 for $300 CAD.

Second set I've owned. Mixing records makes me happy.

Nice set up! If you like to spin vinyl, check this out:

Peace :)

I love the magic of spinning two pieces of plastic together and mixing the frequency and key to make amazing mixes and mashups. Thanks for the share!

That guy fawkes mask is the icing on the cake.

I used to wear it when I DJ'd.. Now it's just a decoration in my room.

Nice setup :d I also have KRKs. Music + Digital Workstation to enter the Cryptocurrency World

I was a Nerd / DJ long before I stumbled onto crypto. Certainly changed my life, both the music, the technology and the internet!

Same here! I use to make mixes on Traktor, and also a producer. Nowadays I focus most of my time on cryptocurrency. Do you have soundcloud? Send me a link

turntables?
I remember those...!
