I have just been writing some articles about the upcoming Super Bowl and the Six Nations Championship. Both events will be aired on BBC, and while visiting the BBC website, I noticed that Cuckoo season 5 is out, and I also noticed that The ABC Murders from 2018, starring John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot is on the BBC website. In other words, I know what I am gonna watch on my TV tonight...
I am a big fan of Cuckoo, and I have seen the first four seasons and enjoyed them a lot. The fourth season might not have been as funny as the first three, but it was still great, and I look very much forward to stream the seven episodes of which the fifth season consists. This is British humor at it's best! If you haven't seen any Cuckoo content yet, you will most likely find it in your local Netflix region, or you can stream all five seasons of Cuckoo at the BBC website.
My favorite Cuckoo season is still the first. It was fantastic and the humor of the "original Cuckoo" was simply the best. It is still an amazing series, but it never managed to continue it 100% after the amazing season 1.
What about The ABC Murders?
I watched a lot of Poirot episodes in my childhood, meaning that David Suchet is the real Hercule Poirot to me. But, as I watched The Murder at the Orient Express last year, I still had a good time, even if it meant another actor being Hercule Poirot. And now, here is my chance to watch John Malkovich in his role as Hercule Poirot.
The ABC Murders will come to Amazon Prime in the USA in February 2019, and I thought maybe I would have to stream it there, but then I realized that it is available on the BBC website as well. And yes, that is a much more convenient way to stream it, because all I need is a VPN subscription (and not an Amazon Prime subscription in addition).
I have read quite a lot of average reviews of The ABC Murders, and quite a lot of criticism of John Malkovich in his role as Hercule Poirot... but I guess I will wait and discover for myself whether I like him in the role or not!
What about you? Have you seen The ABC Murders? Did you like it? And what about Cuckoo? I would love to hear some of your thoughts!
A few days later - some wisdom on Cuckoo
I have been watching the first episodes of Cuckoo by now, and I have to say - I have laughed a lot. It is, however, very strange to watch Cuckoo on BBC without any actual Cuckoo character anymore in the series. I know we lost the original Cuckoo after season 1, and now his follow-up character is gone as well. In other words, no more Cuckoo in Cuckoo, but instead, we are accompanied by the interesting character of the famous actress Andie MacDowell. She is playing the role of Ken's sister who shows up out of nothing, with a very special offer in the start. But, things quickly change, and suddenly she is a part of the inner family. And I have got to say, she does the role very well, and I already feel like it would be a shame to watch further episodes of Cuckoo without her character in them.
So again, Cuckoo season 5 seems to actually be an improvement from season 4 (to me), but I still have some more episodes left to stream, so I might return with even more information after I have streamed some more of them!
I have now finished season 5, and I have got ot say that it was kind of disappointing. I had some great laughs, but it was quite flat, and some of the moments in season 5 was, in fact, unnecessary and rather making me dislike all of it. I do not regret watching it, but I do miss the wildness that made Cuckoo what it was with the characters of Cuckoo. They try to bring the wildness to the series with Ivy, but I do not feel like they succeeded in the way hoped for...
