Joystream looks like a solid opportunity and am gonna do some research on it. The controversy between BTC core and BCH still rages on but I believe bitcoin core is still the real deal. Lightning network has been enabled- the transaction fees are down(back to normal) and we are on our way back up-maybe $50K+ by Dec 2018.

Lightning Network seems to be well received and affecting the price positively but how is settling transactions off chain better and more transparent than settling transactions on chain?

That is where the controversy comes in; but for me that doesn't matter as long as bitcoin is faster and can be used with minimum costs for settling smaller transactions. Transparency isn't an issue as there are lots n lots of hubs on LN creating decentralization.
