BC Vault Blockchain Hardware Wallet

in bcvault •  5 years ago

BC Vault is a blockchain hardware wallet that is similar to Ledger or Trezor as you can use it to store cryptocurrencies on it. It's an interesting device that's worth checking out. As a ledger user I haven't felt the need to look beyond it but this one seems interesting enough.

The company claims that you can send, receive, and manage all your different cryptocurrencies in one application and on one device and that it is the only device on the market to do this. It even supports two factor authentication as well option to store multiple cryptocurrencies.

The full list of supported cryptocurrencies is available here. According to their site the product has a 2.42" OLED display and private keys are backed up encrypted as printed QR codes and on Micro SD card.

According to BC Vault the specifications of the device are:
Size: 100mm x 57mm x 10mm (3.937” x 2.244” 0.394”)
Weight: 41g (1.446 oz)
Operating temperature: 0°C to +60°C (32°F to 140°F)
Screen: OLED 61.5mm (2.42”), 128×64 pixel
Connector: USB Type-C
Additional slot: Micro SD
Certifications: CE, RoHS

Some of it's advantages:

  1. Private keys are encrypted and stored in a state of the art storage medium Ferroelectric RAM
  2. Immune to computer viruses and hackers that can steal from software wallets
  3. Can be actively used securely and quickly, as opposed to a paper wallet which must be imported to untrusted hardware at some point
  4. Also usable as U2F authentication token (authentication for web services as Facebook and others)
  5. Encrypted Micro SD card backup
  6. Easy to use QR code paper vault backup (as last resort)
  7. CE and RoHS certification

The company even states this officially to build trust in its product:

Each and every BC Vault ships pre-loaded with a private key, encrypted the exact same way as every other wallet on the device. This private key corresponds to a public address that owns 1.0 BTC. If you break the encryption on it, its yours!

Whether you like these features or not. One thing is clear, everyone needs to have a secure cryptocurrency hardware wallet for secure storage of our cryptos. Exchanges are not the place to store them.

Since I have ledger already I'm unlikely to get another device anytime soon. But if you have used this please feel free to give some feedback on the same.
