Los Roques in Venezuela - BeachWednesday

To honour BeachWednesday I'm sharing pics of my last trip to the Archipelago Los Roques in Venezuela, composed by more than 300 islands and keys*. These caribbean islands have the clearest waters and whitest sand I've seen in all the country. You won't find the typical palm trees though, so the reflection of the sand, plus the lack of shade, can result in serious sunburns, beware. All in all, this place is an absolute paradise on earth. Safest, cleanest and friendliest place to visit in Venezuela.

The plane! The plane!

This picture was taken from the plane, hence the blueish tone. The only way to get to Los Roques is taking a 15-ish min flight from Maiquetía Airport. You will arrive to the main island that houses most of the posadas. This is the island where most of the population lives, which was around 3000 in 2014*.

Madrisqui

The "qui" in most of the island's names stands for "key" in English. One of the closest islands to visit is Madriqui, at a mere 5 min boat ride. This island has a gorgeous beach filled with fish schools all around.

Cayo de Agua or Water Key

This is one of the farthest touristic beaches to go, taking 50 min from the main island. This key is known for its stunning sand-bridge with small waves breaking on each side. You will find very few tourists around on any given day. If you like walkable beaches and nobody blocking your view, this is the place to go. Enjoy!
