A Trip to South Cape Beach State Park

Cape Cod is a vacation get-away destination for many New Englanders. Over the weekend I stopped by the Cape on my way back from a Jimmy Buffett concert. The concert was awesome but I had a lot to drink... so the beach was the perfect remedy for the hangover. It was rather empty for such a beautiful Sunday afternoon, but that's certainly not something to complain about. Here are some pictures I took as we walked along the shore.

Horseshoe Crabs

Horseshoe crabs were scattered along the shore, unfortunately all of the ones we came across were dead. The shorebirds and gulls were having a field day. These unique sea creatures have been around for over 450 million years and are considered living fossils.

Shorebirds

The beaches of Cape Cod are home to dozens of different species of shorebirds. Many of these have endangered populations due to habitat loss in the mid 1900's. Much of the Cape Cod seashore is now preserved in an effort to protect these beautiful birds and their homes.

Lobster

Someone left their lobster pot on the dunes. Cape Cod is known for some of the best lobster eating in the world. As you drive up and down the Cape you pass many little lobster shacks and restaurants serving up the delicious crustacean in a number of different ways.

Golf

As we continued down the shore we came across a golf course. After a quick google search, I learned that it was part of the New Seabury Country Club. It looked like an incredible course to play a round of golf.
