It was super windy at the beach in Long Beach today. I don't know really how to explain the volleyball nets and why...

What happens to the weather?! So windy!

I don't know but i like it!

That does look windy! I see all the volleyball players really love Long Beach.

I don't go here very often and there are a ton of new courts! I guess they do like it... but not when the wind is howling haha!

I should think not. I've been on the beach in the wind a few times and it's no fun. I end up with sand in my ears and a layer of skin missing from being sandblasted. I actually ruined a camera that way. It got sand in the lens mechanism and it wouldn't open and close anymore. How do you avoid that? You spend a lot of time on the beach!

Cheaper cameras get destroyed really fast! It's really rough on cameras and lenses. The mid range dslr's and lenses are weather sealed which does help a lot. I ruined a nice little Canon point and shot some years ago by getting sand in it : (

I think mine was a Canon. It was sad. I will have to avoid the beach if it's windy!

Sand will get you! You could still go but just not bring it out if the sand is really flying around

I didn't mean I would avoid the beach. Just avoid taking pictures of it! If Oregonians avoided the beach during bad weather we would never get to see it at all!

I know! Sorry i just meant hide the camera from the flying sand :)

I see flying sand... do I?
You need glasses to protect your eyes then...

I was covered in it! I went out on the pier to get out of the sand!

Hahaha - I wouldn't want to take that doggie home and clean it! :D
It probably gained a few pounds extra because of sand in its fur.... poor doggie!

The sandy dogs were loving it! Like hanging your head out the car window while driving i guess :)

Yeah it would have been a mess when they got home Haha!

These are really awesome photos @rossfletcher!
Lots like net coverage across the whole beach! :-)
Sandblasting upload speed going on lol

Thank you so much! I really try to do interesting or... or... i don't even know how/what to call it?

Art...? ok i try to make art... lol

When i walked out in the sand storm i was freaking out with sand in my ears and eyes and thought.

Wow look at these nets and the sand and it was so exciting! Then i went and hid behind a building and relaxed for a bit :) I sound crazy!

wow very interesting, if you were out on the beach that day you would have sand everywhere! Your shots make you feel it too.

Sometimes it doesn't show very well that the sand is blasting! I went out in it for a few minutes but then went for shelter pretty quick!

I bet that stings doesn't it? Especially if the wind is blowing hard!

The worst for me is it on my face and in my eyes and ears. Oh, and don't open your mouth : )

oh man, your eyes! yes your mouth too though because I bet it's fine enough to swallow or breath in. How often does it do that there? It could make for some good pictures if it came up unexpectedly and people were caught in it and trying to get out of there! like clueless tourists.

It's hard to get it to show in photos! It doesn't blow super hard all the time but some areas have very fine grain sand that is uncomfortable to be in in the afternoon when the wind picks up onshore

Oh I get it , that makes sense, thanks for the explanation sir rossfletcher!

You're welcome. I hope i wasn't too annoying :)
