On the Bench Today - 2nd peyote stitch feather, and changing threads

in beadwork •  7 years ago  (edited)

One more feather beaded :) And I thought I should do some photos on changing threads, because a few people have asked me how recently.

I will not use the feather to show the first few rows of Peyote because it will be easier to photo without the feather there. I will do a medicine bottle or something for that.

About here I needed to change threads...

Some people knot the thread to the leather, but I just weave it back into the previous beads like this...

Then I do the same in reverse with the new thread. Top thread is the tail, woven down and now letting the needle come out at the point where I need to add the next bead...

The tension of the weave with the previous beads, then the new beads, will hold everything securely. There is no need for knotting while changing threads in peyote or gourd stitch. This way leaves a smooth transition that cannot be seen on the finished piece :)

Resteemed - you rock!

Beautiful and powerful. I can feel the transmission of energy in the final creation. Very potent and also crafted with such artistry-- that is obvious and strong.

Thank you, I really like beading feathers...and am glad it comes through :)

Hmmm. Beautiful work!

Thank you :)

Very nice close up photography of your
awesome work @elew! You show right where
to stick that needle :-) That's the way I like to
do it also. Love how these turn out, very cool
pattern! How many rows of beads around?

Hahaha, thanks, that is always the hardest part for people just learning...most photos are hard to see. This one has 36 around, so nice for a 4 bead pattern. I am working on a 26 bead right now, which is always tough for patterns, you know.
