Bear Grylls is a British adventurer, writer, television presenter, and former SAS serviceman. Born Edward Michael Grylls on June 7, 1974, he gained worldwide fame for his survival television series, "Man vs. Wild" (known as "Born Survivor: Bear Grylls" in the UK), which aired from 2006 to 2011. In the show, Grylls demonstrated survival techniques in extreme environments, often putting himself in challenging and dangerous situations.
Grylls' adventurous spirit was evident from a young age. He learned to climb and sail from his father and later became a black belt in Shotokan karate. His early exploits included an ascent of Mount Everest in 1998, just 18 months after a parachuting accident in Zambia left him with a broken back.
In addition to "Man vs. Wild," Grylls has hosted several other survival-themed shows, such as "Running Wild with Bear Grylls," where he takes celebrities on 48-hour survival adventures, and "Bear Grylls: Escape from Hell," which features real-life survival stories. He also authored numerous books, including survival guides and his autobiography, "Mud, Sweat, and Tears."
Beyond television, Grylls is known for his involvement with various charities and his role as the Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories, a position he has held since 2009. His work emphasizes the importance of adventure, resilience, and the great outdoors.
