So what is a beard shaping tool?

It's a beard trimming template usually made from clear plastic, which can be pressed against the skin around your facial hair, to carefully line up your facial hair from the comforts of your own home.

These beard shaping tools are not an old invention - yet not that new either - as they appeared in the beard-o-sphere somewhere around 2015.

What to look for in a good facial hair shaping tool?

The most important factor should be that it's made from clear plastic, so you can actually see your beard underneath it.

It should also be flexible enough to contour your face, but not too flexible so that it would feel wobbly in your hands.

A quality beard shaper comes with multiple different edges. To list the most important, they would be:

  • a curve cut
  • a curve step cut
  • a sharp step cut
  • and a straight cut

You should also make sure that the tool doesn't cost too much...

...These beard shapers are basically stamp pressed plastic templates, to make them, it usually costs less than few bucks for the manufacturers, their price however, can be around $20 online.

What do you think? Do men need to use beard shaping tools, or is freehand beard trimming the way to go?
