In case you weren’t already aware, there’s a new sacred text about to be released.
Beastie Boys Book is a sprawling 600-page tome that sees members Michael Diamond (Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) reflect on the immense career of their ground-breaking hip hop trio.
It also features guest passages from some pretty big names. The likes of Amy Poehler, Spike Jonze, Wes Anderson and Roy Choi all contribute.
It’s an unwieldy piece of art that fits with the creative ethos of the group perfectly. A bit all over the place, but always incredibly cool. (Don’t worry, we’ll have an in-depth review of the book in the coming weeks.)
One thing we didn’t consider when news of the book came out was that there may be an audiobook version.
Well, there will be. And you’re not even going to believe who’s narrating it.
Hell, it might be easier to tell you who is not playing a part in the reading of this work. Because the guests they’ve assembled is impressive to say the absolute least.
Okay, so Mike D and Ad-Rock are there. That’s not surprising. Long-time Beasties DJ Mix Master Mike has a go. As does founding member and Luscious Jackson drummer Kate Schellenbach. Fair enough.
Amy Poehler returns, and so does Spike Jonze and Roy Choi – that makes sense.
But there are a few other names you might be keen on hearing from as well.
takes deep breath…
Steve Buscemi, Bette Midler, Nas, Exene Cervenka (X), Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Elvis Costello, Chuck D (Public Enemy), John C. Reilly, Snoop Dogg, Will Ferrell, Maya Rudolph, Rev Run (Run-D.M.C.), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), LL Cool J, Chloë Sevigny, Jon Stewart, Ben Stiller, Talib Kweli, Wanda Sykes, Dave Macklovitch (Chromeo), Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Rachel Maddow and Philippe Zdar (Cassius).
And that’s not even everyone…
Beastie Boys Book is out on Thursday 8 November and we imagine the audiobook will land around the same time.
