We see the beatitudes in the gospel of Matthew 5:3-11 and in the gospel of Luke 6:20-24.
We have also the beatitudes in the gospel of Matthew 5:3-11:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be conforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of the righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
The beatitudes responds to the desire for the good, not for the desire of happiness. The beatitudes are qualities of God, not virtues. That means that the beatitudes are perfection of God.
We are all ordered to the beatitudes. The beatitudes express a principle of order. the law of the return is insert in each beatitude, that is why we have 4 beatitudes and 4 curses in the gospel of Luke. There are two paths, and by the law of the return, two retributions.
Jesus explain to us that we have to choose between good and evil, between God and money, between the sin and the rectude, between the spirit and the flesh.
Christ explain to us that those who sow in the spirit, those who choose to live the spiritual gifts, reap blessing. Mercy returns mercy, the gifts returns blessings. The spiritual gifts are way, the gifts are progressive, the gifts are the precise and the exact, condition of truth and improve the life.
The law of the return awards acertivity. Instead it punish the error, that is the sin. Those who choose the path of the sin, the path of the error and the apparent goods reap curses. That is the true meaning of the beatitudes, we choose, we reap.
