Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

I suggest do it systematically, the income will follow you but unless you complete beginners task, you are not eligible to participate in contests etc.
And be careful where you click at like or dislike button, in case a higher rank member clicks at dislike button on your comment or post, all your ranking points will disappear
