When people tell me, they're ugly, I quickly walk them through my favorite brainwash. Don't be confused. A brainwash can be a good thing. Clear up those old wires as often as you can. Wash your brain, keep it clean! So, if you're one of those people, please hand me your pretty neuronet. Let me carefully clean it. Imagine me being some hairdresser, but for neurons. Let me dress your synapse!
Step 1 – How many dimensions do you perceive with your eyes?
Don't think I couldn't hear you over here. So, you said 3? Try again.
Ok, right. The answer is two. With your two tiny eyes you can SEE exactly two dimensions. And you're only capable of focusing on a very small part of the entire picture. This is where your brain comes into play and – SWOOSH – with all that other information it has about the room you're in, it forms a three-dimensional view. This is virtual reality already. What you see isn't what you see. It's a combination of what you're really perceiving with those two beautiful eyes of yours and what you're calculating and projecting with your brainy brain. That's the first thing to be very aware of: YOU AREN' SEEING WHAT YOU'RE SEEING. You are more seeing what YOU – and you alone – allow yourself to see …
Step 2 – What are you lookin' at?
Many experiments about the sense of self have already shown, that when looking into a mirror, most people look at what they deem their weak spots. When asked about features that they like or didn't like about themselves, everybody would mention exactly those parts they were immediately looking at when confronted with their own reflection in a mirror.
Step 3 – let's have another look at ourselves
Know that, as soon as you're looking at yourself, you only focus on parts you don't like and everything surrounding this tiny spot will be a virtual reflection of what information your brain has. Be aware that you're producing an echo chamber with your thoughts. Millions of neurons mirroring the thought that you are ugly. Now, let's try again.
What do you like about yourself? There must be something. Even if it's incredible small, like the tip of your left index finger, or whatever it may be. Make a short list in your head. I don't care how brief it is. If you think you're ugly, this practice might be stressing you out already. When you have found something, take another look at the mirror and face those parts you like, alone. Stare at it. Smile and be happy about the things you like about yourself.
If you practice looking at yourself in that way, you will notice how your perception slowly changes. It worked on me and many others. And the way you perceive yourself changes the way how others see you also. You are what you say you are. Our perception of you follows yours. So, when you're sending out certainty about your own value, we will be as convinced as you are. So, c'mon, convince us!

I usually look in the mirror first thing in the morning when I stagger into the bathroom, which probably isn't the best time to look at my haggard morning self! Lol. It's been a long time since I've felt I was ugly. Not sure when then changed. I am starting to think I look old in the mirror now. Something I'm going to have to learn to graciously accept.

I often think that as long as people smile and laugh, they look like happy children. Someone could be 120 years old, if he/she is smiling happily, I see a kid. :)
And I started listening to positive affirmations almost 3 years ago. One that I like a lot is: I am healthier, happier and younger with every new day. I don't know how long I can hold it up, but for now, it worked out. I am looking younger today than back then.
Perception follows expectation.

That first point is one that people forget, assuming they know it already, which w e generally don't get that we don't really see everything. We don't see what we see, like you said. Love what you are writing, beautiful, I'm Oatmeal, and that is why I'm sharing this post.
