Honey Lemon Face Mask For Clear And Glowing Skin

in beauty •  7 years ago

I have tried and tested this face mask recipe and found the results to be very promising. Consistent use results in the fading of dark spots, hyper pigmentation and dull skin revealing younger and fresher looking skin! Perfect for all skin types, this treatment is homemade used making ingredients easily available in your kitchen and for a fraction of the cost of treatments available in stores. I tend to use this once weekly, but increase to 2-3 times a week when I feel my skin is in need of a pick me up. Upon the first use, you will notice a dramatic improvement in the texture of your skin. It will feel baby soft and look bright. I received many compliments on my skin after using this mask and therefore decided to make it a regular in my skin care regime. Let's take a look at the benefits of the ingredients we will be using:

Benefits of Lemons

Lemons are a rich source of L-Ascorbic Acid, otherwise known as pure Vitamin C. This vitamin is well known for it's potent anti-ageing effects due to it's role as an anti-oxidant. Ageing is predominantly caused by the production and accumulation of free radicals in the body which can build up as a result of exposure to environmental toxins, eating unhealthy foods and even through the natural body processes. Therefore, the role of antioxidant is to mop up these free radicals and thereby slow down the ageing process of the body. This process along with the ability of Vitamin C to boost collagen production in the skin, results in firmer, younger looking skin and the ability to reduce hyper pigmentation and uneven skin tone over time. Some studies have shown that vitamin C may help prevent and treat ultraviolet (UV)-induced photo damage. One of the ways it does this is by increasing production of collagen which can reduce the appearance of fine line and deep set wrinkles. In individuals who have a deficiency of Vitamin C, this will often be characterised by rough, dry and prematurely ageing skin as well as dry hair. In summary, here is a list of the top benefits of lemon juice for the skin:

-Prevents skin discoloration
-Improves the texture and elasticity of skin
-Imparts a healthy glow
-Treats sunburn

Benefits of Honey

Honey has been used since time immemorial as a skin beauty treatment. Cleopatra, famed for her beauty, was known to use honey regularly for her skin. In fact, she would regular bathe in a mixture of honey and milk! Research has also shown that the Ancient Greeks used honey as a skin treatment as far back as 5,000 BC. So what is it that makes honey so special?

Honey is a natural humectant which means that it attracts water from it's surroundings, providing hydration without leaving an oily residue. When applied topically, this results in fresher, and plumper looking skin. It was traditionally used to dress wounds due to its excellent antimicrobial properties. Applying it to pimples or acne prone skin will allow the skin to be nourished whilst the honey gently heals. Honey is:

Antibacterial- fighting bacterial imbalances on the skin and great for acne or pimple outbreaks.
A natural exfoliator- it will slough off dead skin cells to reveal gorgeous, glowing skin
Anti-inflammatory- heals the skin tissue and will gradually fade away scars.
Humectant- it will absorb moisture from the environment to leave the skin looking refreshed

Ingredients and Method
1 Tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 Tablespoon Honey (preferably raw honey)

Mix both ingredients well and apply a thin layer to a cleansed face. Leave this on for a minimum of 15-20 minutes but longer for better results (up to an hour). For those with extra sensitive skin, I would recommend doing a small patch test to ensure that the quantity of lemon is not too harsh for your skin. Additionally, adding some oatmeal to the mixture can also have a great calming effect to the skin.

Wipe the mixture off with a warm towel and reveal beautiful soft and supple skin.

Continue use 2-3 times a week and you will begin to notice tighter, brighter skin and the gradual fading of dark marks or pigmentation.
