From the candy blue, green, and pink arches Pat McGrath created for Balenciaga’s Fall 2010 show, to the soft lilac iterations Gucci dreamed up for spring, brightly-colored brows have been permeating the runway for years. But flitting through Instagram as of late, it’s clear the high-octane look is finally gaining steam off the catwalk.
Leading the charge is Solange, who has never been one to shy away from bucking tradition with her brows or a subversive makeup look. Earlier this summer, the singer shared a snap with her thick, brushed-up arches painted a deep violet that popped against her glowing complexion, taupe smoky eyes, and buoyant brown curls. Similarly, jewelry designer Vera Balyura swept ruby pigment through her naturally-light brows, allowing her dewy face and soft sweeps of copper at eye level to sit pretty as pared-back counterparts.
On the other end of the spectrum, each time Juliana Huxtable, a poet, photographer, and DJ, punctuates her visage with cobalt blue arches, she opts for a matching lip color or eyeliner for maximum impact. Chinese model Mei also takes the monochrome approach and dyes her brows whatever shade of pink her micro fringe happens to be that day. While rainbow-hued arches may not be for the faint of heart, these girls make the case for makeup minimalists and maximalists alike.
really nice
