Mount Everest has been summited by about 4500 people and by about 200 without oxygen supplement

The summit of Mount Everest is 8848 m above sea level. The atmospheric pressure, and the partial pressure of oxygen at the summit, are about one third of that at sea level. Altitudes above 8000 m are called the death zone for the reason that the human body is thought to be incapable of acclimatizing to such low partial oxygen pressures. The body begins to shut down causing the loss of vital functions. An indirect cause of death is the physical and mental stress causing climbers to make fatal mistakes.

So the 200 that reached the top without oxygen are superhuman!... Wow...!!! How curious!..

Hi Markku. You have to be physically fit to do this. Any weaknesses and it is not a good idea.

Absolutely. A lot of people will get symptoms of mountain sickness at around 4000 m. A go player I know attempted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro the summit of which is at 5895 m but had to quit around 4000 m because he felt too sick. To think that you'd spend at least a day in the death zone without supplemented oxygen feels surreal. The weather is typically awful. Wind speeds can be in the hurricane category with very low temperatures. 8848 m is not far from where commercial airliners fly.

Also know someone who felt sick at Killiminjaro.

definitely @cryptoandcoffee, in addition to the US$ 50.000 or even more that the climbing costs.

Hello friend, very good curious fact. It is also good to say that at least 240 people have died trying to climb the everest. I've never been there but just by watching the movie one knows how extreme it can be.

Friend. one question, you would be able to reach the top on Mount Everest

In my present state of physical fitness, definitely not. Also, I have no idea how susceptible I would be to mountain sickness in general because don't think I have ever even visited an elevation higher than about 2200 m from sea level.

Climbing Mt. Everest without Oxygen Supplement is calling for death, Well some people are crazy and passionate to achieve the next to impossible.

Only very few people are able to do that.

Very true!
